Today at my Sps discussion class, we discussed the contrasts between racism and nationalism.My classmate told a sentence which was: "Lets kill all the Armenian people is a racist sentence." which is not true.Its a sentence which contains highly nationalist feelings.So its a fascist nationalist sentence.While the class were discussing it, i realized that we don't know the difference between those two concepts.
So at the end lecturer ended the discussion by giving a example like: "Lets kill all blacks, is a racist sentence." which was very true.
Because we both learn these concepts in Eng and Sps lets try not to confuse them in the next time!!!

ReplyDeleteYour point of view is really good. You're right that people confuse these two concepts and so while they are trying to support themselves they make really big mistakes.
By the way the examples that you gave 'Lets kill all the Armenian people' or 'Lets kill all the black people' these are the sentences which cannot belong to our human selves.
As you said before we all learn about these concepts both in SPS and ENG, I hope that people can learn these terms and can understand not to use the sentences you and I wrote above.

It's definitely a great idea to differentiate and to use language carefully...it shows signs of critical thinking! ;)
